This review is dedicated to my best girls, Laura and Evie, one of whom is my Yelp stalker. Which is totally cool with me because I know I have an audience. *wink*
I used to go to the Studio Movie Grill when it wasn't a Studio Movie Grill. I remember specifically seeing the movie "Angel Heart" (with Mickey Rourke, when he still looked human) at this theatre; it was exciting because I was finally old enough to see an R-rated film without parental consent. Yes, the theatre has been there THAT LONG. It became a dinosaur in the wake of all the comfy-chair multi-plexes that sprang up, yet it never closed. There was always business from people like myself who were too lazy to drive to a multi-plex or didn't want to deal with crowds. Then all of a sudden, it was a Studio Movie Grill.
I was thoruoghly amazed when I walked in. Gone were the brown walls from 1987 with the mural of old Hollywood stars, replaced by blue and silver and neon. We had purchased our movie tickets online, and went to the desk to get them. My friend asked "how does this work?", and everything was explained cheerfully and in detail, even though this poor girl probably has to do so 100 times a day (I would've been tempted to sneer "What? You didn't read the website while purchasing tickets?", which is probably why it's a good thing I quit retail long, long ago). The lobby wasn't crowded, but we were at an 11:50 matinee. Everything appeared clean and under control.
Giddy with anticipation for the movie, we found our theatre and chose seats. There are two set-ups: leather chairs with tables, then more leather chairs at what looks like a bar. We chose the latter. We were greeted pretty quickly and put in an order for Cosmos, which I suppose gives away what movie we were seeing. The server chuckled (but not in a jeering way) and informed us that they may have run out of the ingredients as they had had 400 people the night before (guess we weren't as original as we thought-damn!). We were all prepared to order Flirtinis when he returned and said he would be able to get our Cosmos after all. Then we waited a long time for the drinks. Our food came soonafter, and while it was overpriced the way all movie food is, it was quite good. I would've expected my burger to weigh a pound for the price it cost, but it was still more than enough and it tasted heavenly. The fries were good too. We ordered another round of Cosmos, which again, took longer than expected to arrive as the theatre itself was not terribly busy. The website says checks are brought out forty minutes before the movie's end, but in our case, it was more like an hour. Nevertheless, they were efficient even though we had ordered drinks since they tallied our check and then one person decided to treat everyone (thank you!), turning two already revised checks into one. Staff were always accomodating and friendly throughout.
I was delighted that the chairs were so comfortable; since an auto accident 4 years ago, my back does funny things when I go to the movies. Not so with this one-I stayed comfortable in my chair for once. I also was able to sit through the whole thing without a sweater; usually I am freezing at the movies. Here, the temperature seemed just right. Oh! Bathrooms were CLEAN. Gone were the graffiti ramblings of yesteryear that once adorned the walls of the stalls. So either Lisa no longer loves Cody or they make an effort to keep things nice.
We enjoyed our experience here so much, we are going back as soon as scheduling permits. Okay, I'm lying, as far as Sex and the City goes, we're the female equivalent of Trekkies and we want to the see the movie again. And again and again and again. But we'll see it at this particular theatre again because it was a good experience

This is a great place to get food that is actually good while you watch a movie. Studio Movie Grill is new on the scene in Houston and is planning on expanding.
Currently with one location in Copperfield, the Studio Movie Grill did an amazing job of promoting itself. They passed out free movie tickets to kids at the library just as summer got off to a start last year and created amazing word of mouth buzz about their Grand Opening.
The food is much better than average here so you don't feel like you loaded up on junk food and sat through yet another movie. The staff here is great and will make sure all of your needs are met without interrupting your big screen entertainment.
Watch for a new location at Town and Country in 2008.

I have been to The Alamo and Studio Movie Grill and the Studio Movie Grill wins hands down. The waiters at Studio Movie Grill are armed with wireless devices that put your order in right when you order. The food and drink comes out fast. You get alot of food for your dollar so my advice is to order foods to share like nachos, pizza, etc.
Sadly, at the Alamo, I might have my drink by the time the Studio Movie Grill would have given me my food, and drink, and I'm finished eating. So go to the Studio Movie Grill as the service is much better and faster!
